Notes

My first MacBook. My dad got it for me as a high school graduation gift. After years of heavy use, it still runs as smoothly as the day I unboxed it.

Notes

My third desktop and dedicated gaming rig. Packing an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 at 4.6 GHz, 32 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. The entire build cost me under 800 euros — an absolute steal for the performance. Also the first machine I installed Linux on.

Notes

My first "hi-fi related" headphone. A birthday gift from a middle-school friend when I was 14. It cost nearly 400 RMB — a generous gift for a 14-year-old teenager. We eventually lost touch.

Notes

Built right after graduating middle school. Just a few months later, GPU prices skyrocketed and my RX 5700 XT could have sold for 2.5 times what I paid. I never got the chance to buy a replacement card until after high school — still a bit of a regret. Now fitted with an RX 6700 GRE and serving my dad.

Picked this up after trying the WF-1000XM5. I expected the sound quality to fall well short of Sony's, but it didn't. The seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem turned out to be genuinely impressive.

Notes

My current monitor. A 32-inch 4K display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports HDR. The performance is absolutely fantastic. However the brightness always goes down if I switch to PS5, I still haven't figured out why.

Notes

Honestly never loved its sound. People praised it for being neutral and monitor-like, but I always found it fatiguing after a short while. Still, it was my first open-back hi-fi headphone, and I was genuinely thrilled when the package arrived back in 2019.

My first game console, and my gateway into the PlayStation ecosystem. I played through a ton of Sony first-party titles on it. The PS5 era barely has exclusives anymore, so this one still feels special.

Notes

My second camera. I chose it for its hybrid photo/video capability, but in practice I never shot a single video with it. On paper its image quality doesn't match my previous Nikon D7100, but paired with two Sigma fast primes and decent autofocus, the real-world results are far better.

Notes

My very first PC build at age 14 — entirely from second-hand bargain parts. It was my introduction to DIY hardware, and the build process was riddled with problems. I live-blogged the whole ordeal on 图拉丁吧; the thread might still be out there. This machine barely survived through the end of middle school.

Not really a fan of in-ear monitors, but if I had to pick one, this would be it. Mainly used with my game controller and PS VR2. The sound quality is honestly not bad at all.

Notes

Picked one up second-hand in the Netherlands to see what a premium ergonomic chair really feels like. It is, without question, more comfortable than anything I have sat in before. But for something priced well above its peers, you expect a revelation. Apple products sometimes deliver this way, but this chair doesn't quite do that. It is simply a relatively comfortable chair you can sit in a bit longer before getting tired, while the couch and bed still win.

My first game controller — a 13th birthday gift from my uncle. I still remember booting up ICEY with it for the first time and feeling the rumble. That was something else.
